What is the difference between residential plumbing and commercial plumbing?
The key difference between residential and commercial plumbing is scale. A residential system is typically contained to your home. A commercial property’s plumbing is generally going to experience heavier usage, may have multiple floors and thousands of square feet of specialized and normal plumbing to accommodate, and will need to meet different building codes and regulations than a residential property. Even if your business isn’t in a very large building, it’s likely going to be better to choose a commercial plumber for your needs because they will have greater knowledge of what you legally need to operate than a residential plumber probably will.
What is considered a plumbing emergency for a commercial property?
Generally, the same things you’d consider an emergency at home are going to be an emergency at your business. The difference will most likely be urgency – a clog at home can often wait until morning if you can’t fix it yourself, but the same can’t always be said about a clog at your business. Here are a few things you should always call an emergency plumber for:
Immediate health dangers to your staff and clients – like a suspected issue with your gas line or a known gas leak, or issues with your sewer line causing sewage to back up in your drains or to leach into your potable water.

What are signs I might have wastewater backflow problems?
Backflow issues can cause health problems in people and animals, negatively impact the environment, and even cause structural concerns to the rest of your property. There are a few common signs you have an issue with your backflow preventer:
- Employees or consumers are having physical health issues, and your water is the only common connection.
- There is an odor or odd taste to your water.
- You have water leaks with no other clear cause.
- You have slow drains but otherwise clean pipes.
- You have uneven water pressure.
Many municipalities require backflow testing annually, so make sure you know the local regulations. If your municipality has a different requirement, you should still have your system tested at least that often to make sure there are no preventable problems.
