Frequently Asked Questions

Plumbing problems that crop up out of nowhere might only affect a regular activity – or it could have the potential to ruin the holiday you’re hosting with your extended family. We’ll make lasting repairs so you don’t have recurring plumbing issues in your home.

Can I use a chemical drain cleaner for my sink clog?

We advise against using any chemical cleaners for any pipes in your home. They’re ineffective, erosive to pipes, and potentially harmful to yourself, your household, and the environment. It’s best to call a plumber if you can’t solve the clog yourself.

How do I keep my kitchen sink from clogging?

In general, clogs are caused when something goes down a drain that shouldn’t. For your kitchen sink, try putting a catcher in the drain to help catch those crumbs and soap residues you can’t. Also, avoid letting food or greases and oils down your drain as much as you can. Let greases cool in the pan and scrape them into the garbage – otherwise they’ll cool in your kitchen pipe and build up into a clog.

How can I keep my garbage disposal in tip-top shape?

Garbage disposals are only equipped to handle certain types of items. Don’t put stringy vegetables, like celery or eggplant, or greases and oils into your disposal. These can gunk up the blades of your disposal. Also, avoid putting things like eggshells or coffee grounds into your disposal. Keeping things out of the disposal that shouldn’t be there will keep the motor from working harder than it should and prolong its lifespan.

Is drain cleaning important? How do I do it?

It’s recommended you clean your drains about once a month. Pour a hot water and salt mixture (or hot water and soap if your drain is very greasy) down your drains and let the force of gravity and the abrasive mix do the hard work. Be careful not to pour boiling hot water into any porcelain fixtures, though. It could cause them to crack.
